The focus of Ed Thompson’s practice has been in the areas of civil litigation and trials, estate planning, and business succession planning, probate litigation, lake rights, real estate and land use law. He draws on more than forty (40) years of legal experience representing financial institutions, individuals, and businesses.
Attorney Thompson’s education includes an undergraduate degree from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York in 1975, and a law degree from Seattle University School of Law in 1978. Thompson was admitted by the Supreme Court of the state of Washington to limited practice as a Legal Intern (1977). Attorney Thompson has been admitted to practice law in all state and federal courts of Wisconsin (1978); the District of Columbia; the state of North Carolina; the United States Court of Federal Claims; the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit; and, the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
In 2013, the Walworth County Bar Association presented Attorney Thompson with its “Lifetime Achievement Award.” He has presented oral argument to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, and made a motion before the entire Supreme Court of the United States.
Thompson also serves as the Municipal Judge for the Town of Delavan, and was first elected to that position in 1983. He has also been an instructor of Continuing Judicial Education programs for three decades; having received training at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.
Attorney Thompson was appointed to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation (District I Committee), which administers the lawyer disciplinary system within the state, and served from 1995 through 2003. He has served on the State Bar of Wisconsin Fee Arbitration Panel since 1997. He is a past president of the Walworth County Bar Association (1985-86).
Mr. Thompson has been active in his community and is currently serving as: Director and Vice President of Borg Foundation, Inc., and Director of Dalco Metals, Inc. As of 2021, Thompson is "Of Counsel" with Clair Law.
