Navigating Legal Issues with New COVID Disruptions

Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin and Walworth County, many fundamental legal institutions are adapting new policies for the foreseeable future. Clair Law is aware of these changes and ready to help our clients navigate these legal hurdles.

The Walworth County Judicial Center has issued a Temporary Emergency Order suspending all in-person appearances for civil matters, including jury trials, court trials, or other contested hearings until mid-January at the earliest. Clair Law will appear at any non-evidentiary hearing by Zoom or phone conference. All other appearances are being rescheduled according to the court’s calendar. Additionally, all small claims appearances, excluding evictions, are suspended until further order of the court as well. We recognize the desire to achieve finality in litigation matters and we are doing everything in our power to position our clients to be ready when courts reopen.

The Walworth County Register of Deeds Office will be closed for in-person meetings or deliveries from November 16, 2020 to January 4, 2021. We are still able to provide documents for recording via U.S. Mail or through the local title companies to ensure that real estate transactions and other recordings continue without delay.

The Walworth County Land Use and Resource Management Department is closed for renovations until December 22, 2020. Our office continues to work closing on land use, zoning and other matters with the County and local municipalities through zoom and phone conference. Now more than ever its important to have an attorney involved in your next development project to help navigate these constantly changes schedules.

We are confident in our ability to adapt to these changes in circumstance. We understand these new restrictions add further legal obstacles for our clients. We are ready to assist you in a timely and efficient manner.
